• Mastering Customer Risk Assessment and Enhanced Due Diligence

Gain practical knowledge of Customer Risk Assessment (CRA), KYC, and EDD

to identify and mitigate AML risks.

About this Free Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) Course

This practical course teaches compliance professionals how to assess customer risk and apply enhanced due diligence (EDD) the way regulators expect. You learn to decide when standard customer due diligence is enough and when EDD is required, establish source of funds and source of wealth, and keep high-risk relationships under proper ongoing monitoring. Practitioner-led, UAE-aligned, with a certificate on completion. You can start free.

What this enhanced due diligence course covers

Customer risk assessment is where good AML programmes are won or lost. Get the risk rating right and every later decision, from the checks you run to the monitoring you apply, follows logically and holds up to scrutiny. Get it wrong and you either smother low-risk customers in friction or, far worse, wave a high-risk one straight through.

This course takes you through that judgement step by step. You start with the customer risk assessment that sits behind every customer decision, learn to score customer, product, channel and geographic risk, and turn that into a clear customer risk rating. From there, you learn exactly when a relationship crosses into high risk and triggers enhanced due diligence, what EDD actually requires, and how to document the decision so an auditor or regulator can follow your reasoning.

It is hands-on rather than theoretical. You work with realistic customer profiles, see what a strong EDD file looks like, and learn the habits that keep your risk decisions consistent and defensible.

When is EDD Required in the UAE?

Under a risk-based approach, enhanced due diligence is required whenever a customer or transaction is rated high risk, including politically exposed persons (PEPs), customers connected to high-risk countries, and complex or unusually large transactions. In the UAE this sits in Cabinet Resolution 134 of 2025: Article 5 sets the risk-based approach, and Article 16 makes EDD mandatory for PEPs.

What you will Learn in this EDD Course

By the end of the course you will be able to:

Score customer, product, channel and geographic risk and turn it into a clear customer risk rating.

Tell simplified, standard and enhanced due diligence apart and apply the right level to each customer.

Recognise the triggers that make EDD mandatory, including PEPs and high-risk jurisdictions.

Establish and evidence the source of funds and the source of wealth for high-risk customers.

Secure senior-management approval and apply enhanced ongoing monitoring.

Document every risk decision so it stands up to audit and regulatory review.

Why this customer risk assessment course is worth your time

Risk assessment is the one skill that shapes every other part of an AML programme. Examiners rarely fault a firm for a single missed alert; they fault it for a weak or undocumented risk methodology that let the wrong customers through with the wrong level of scrutiny. The analysts who stand out are the ones who can look at a customer and explain, in a few clear sentences, why they are low, medium or high risk and what that means for the checks that follow. That is exactly what this course trains.

The framework is near universal. A risk-based approach to customer due diligence is a core FATF standard adopted worldwide. In the UAE, the rules are explicit: the risk-based approach and enterprise-wide risk assessment are set out in Cabinet Resolution 134 of 2025 (Article 5), standard customer due diligence in Articles 6 to 9, beneficial-ownership identification at the 25 percent threshold in Article 10, and mandatory EDD for PEPs in Article 16. Federal Decree-Law No. 10 of 2025 (Article 19) requires firms to put these preventive measures, and the training behind them, in place. Whatever your jurisdiction, the craft you learn here travels.

Practical takeaway

You will be able to risk-rate a customer and build a defensible EDD file, the decision every AML programme is judged on.

Frequently Asked Questions About EDD

EDD is required whenever your risk assessment rates a customer or transaction as high risk, including PEPs, customers linked to high-risk countries, and complex or unusually large transactions. In the UAE this is set by Cabinet Resolution 134 of 2025, Article 5 (the risk-based approach) and Article 16 (mandatory EDD for PEPs).

Customer due diligence (CDD) is the standard set of checks applied to every customer: identify and verify the customer and the beneficial owner and understand the relationship. EDD adds deeper measures for high-risk cases, including source of funds and source of wealth, senior-management approval, and enhanced ongoing monitoring.

It is the firm-level assessment of money-laundering and terrorist-financing risk across customers, products, channels and geographies required by Article 5 of Cabinet Resolution 134 of 2025. It produces the customer risk ratings that decide whether simplified, standard or enhanced due diligence applies.

No. The risk-based approach and EDD are global FATF standards, so the skills apply anywhere.

It is taught by Dipali Vora (CAMS, Associate Member of ICSI), a compliance practitioner who specialises in enterprise-wide risk assessments and customer due diligence, with strong knowledge of AML regulations in the GCC region.
